I began practicing yoga last spring as a project for my
complementary and alternative medicine class on Yoga and Insomnia. Practicing yoga and meditative breathing
really helped me to fall asleep fast and stay asleep all night, something I
haven’t been able to do in at least 10 years!
Then Akasha Yoga in Vacaville opened up and I began taking classes there
last July. I immediately fell in love
with this yoga because it was helping me to de-stress from school and
work. I also got an amazing
workout. Akasha yoga offers HOT
yoga. This is where you practice yoga in
a heated studio. You sweat and sweat and
sweat some more. This detoxification
makes you feel amazing! I always have an
awesome amount of energy after each class and feel great the rest of my day. Below I share some benefits of yoga and hot
yoga and the three class styles that Jamie offers at her studio. The information below is also from Jamie. I totally recommend you try out yoga and/or
hot yoga for a supercharged workout!
Benefits of yoga
·
Reduced tension in the muscles – release of
lactic acid
·
Increased joint mobility and comfort
·
Increased strength and muscle tone
·
Increased balance and improved posture
·
Reduction of stress and improved moods
·
Ability to sleep better
·
Improved breathing and lung capacity
·
May help lower blood pressure and cholesterol
·
Improved circulation, digestion and elimination
Why the Heat?
·
Your body burns more fat more effectively; fat
may be redistributed and burned as energy during the class
·
The heat produces a fluid-like stretch allowing
for greater range of movement in joints, muscles, ligaments, and other
supporting structures of the body
·
Capillaries dilate in the heat; more effectively
oxygenating the tissues, muscles, gland and organs and helping in the removal
of waste products
·
Your peripheral circulation improves due to
enhanced perfusion of your extremities
·
Your metabolism speeds up the breakdown of
glucose and fatty acids
·
You benefit from a strengthening of willpower,
self-control, concentration and determination in this challenging environment
·
Your cardiovascular system gets a thorough
workout
·
Your muscles and connective tissue become more
elastic and allow for greater flexibility with less chance of injury and
improved resolution of injury
·
Sweating promotes detoxification and elimination
through the skin – which is the body’s largest elimination organ
·
Just as when your body raises its temperature to
fight infection, the raised temperature in the room will assist in improving
T-cell function and the proper functioning of your immune system
·
Your nervous system function is greatly improved
and messages are carried more efficiently to and from your brain
·
Metabolism improves in your digestive system and
in the body’s cells (that is food in the gut and nutrients in the cells)
·
Hot Yoga in Vacaville – My friend Jamie owns a
studio in Vacaville, California – check it out!
These are the three class
styles offered at Akasha Yoga in Downtown Vacaville, Ca
H - HOT HATHA in this class style each posture is
held for a set period of time. The postures are separated by a brief pause or
savasana allowing your body just enough time to integrate and recover before
moving to the next posture. The class follows the same sequence of postures
each time. The instructor will guide you through this total body workout that
addresses strength, flexibility, endurance and balance. (~105 degrees)
V - HOT VINYASA FLOW using sun salutations to flow
from posture to posture our Hot Vinyasa classes offer a vigorous workout in a
slightly less hot room. Our vinyasa teachers create unique classes often
focusing on a specific area of the body or posture type (such as hips or
backbends). They use music to guide you though this journey. (Approx. Heat Range
85-100)
S - SUMITS YOGA integrating the core principals of
Hot Hatha & Ashtanga-inspired power flow, Sumits Yoga flows through a
sequence of both static & flowing asanas to music. The perfect blend of our
other two class styles and adaptable to ALL LEVELS.(Approx. Heat Range 102-105)
